Wildlife haven: Yellowstone National Park

I recently visited Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming for the first time. We saw a lot of wildlife and nature throughout the week we were there but the most impressive animals we saw were the bison. The huge animals are generally 1000-2200 pounds and can weigh up to 2800! That is more than most Mini Coopers and similar to a Toyota Corolla! Yellowstone has the largest bison population of around 4000 of them. We saw a lot of other wildlife too including elk, deer, chipmunks, and once a grizzly bear.

Another part of the park that fascinated me was the hotsprings. Yellowstone has more than half of the world’s geysers and a large variety of different colored hotsprings. It reminded me of the power of geothermal energy I learned about in an AP environmental science course I took. Imagine if we could harness all that clean energy!

The environment was very different from the Great sand dunes national park, but was equally interesting and another fun experience I hope to remember for a long time.
